Default Checking oil level

When is it best to check your oil level? Immediately after running the engine for a while, or after its been sitting for a bit? Wouldn’t it be better to check it after its been sitting for awhile so that the oil has time to drain back down into the pan, giving you a more accurate reading?

Give it a few minutes to settle and you're probably close enough to tell if you are too low.
