Default Cat/Resonator?

What is the difference between a catalytic converter in your exhaust and an exhaust resonator? And what is the effect of not having a resonator? If I build my own exhaust should I or should I not get a resonator, and how do I get it?

A catalytic converter is for emissions. It helps clean up the exhaust gas comming out of your engine. (you have to have a catalytic converter) A resonator is basically to control sound. If you don't put a resonator on your car it will be louder, but it MIGHT not sound as good as if you had one. Maybe someone can expand on this more........later

the catalytic converter is to clean up your exhaust for emissions control. it depends on what you mean by "resonator." you have a resonator in your intake that you can remove and gain some power. what do you mean by "resonator?"

the point of a resonator is to cut down on the CO and HC coming out of your exhaust, you will def. need one of these for emissions test, i suggest a high flow cat . a resonator will get rid of the rhaspy sound. i would definitly recommend both.
