4 Cyl, no problem. You can go between Beta 1 and 2. But you'd also have to put in a new wiring harness and ECU.

there is no point to swapping the motor out. there are tibs in korea pushing 600whp on stock blocks. and the 3rd gen v6 DELTA engine would not fit without a lot of work. it cant take half as much power as the 4cylinder BETA though(or so its been said).

It is more like the Beta 3 than the Beta 2, and there isn't much of an improvement over the previous Beta's (at least in terms of power). The Honda motor swaps are nice because Honda makes all kind of motors in similar configurations. So you can take the 2.0L out of an RSX and put it into a $3,000 used Civic without major modifications (such as replacing the subframe assembly). Hyundai simply doesn't have that kind of production or variety in engines. So, to answer your question, there are no simple or cheap engine swaps that will turn your car into a rocket.
With enough money anything is possible. I know a mechanic that does a lot of custom fabrication work who wants to install a Northstar into my Tib. However, it would be ungodly expensive and dramatically change the handling of the car. As it could easily push 300-400 hp, it would kick ass at the 1/4 mile, but not be nearly as nimble or fun in the corners, and there isn't a standard transmission available for it. It would probably be cheaper and more effective to do a nice custom turbo package (not that I have the money for either project...)

All the Betas will fit in each other's bays.
I would NOT spend the money to swap out the CVVT into say a RD1.
The CVVT sucks! It's NOT V-TEC. It's more for fuel economy than anything, only thing I notice is it's MUCH smoother, regardless if you have a 5spd or auto. That's it.
NO EXTRA POWER!

You can't change out the cams with the CVVT, the clutch system that runs the chain is a sealed unit and if you mess with it, you are phucked. Folks in Korea are swapping to the non CVVT Beta2 or the Beta 1 to mod.
CVVT was just put in to increase milage and give a bit more HP. Like 4 or 5. That's it.
