Cams
ok i know im gonna get yelled at for this.. but i have a question i need to be answered.... Cams for 2001 tibbies.... SR sells elantra 1.8 GT cam... now is this 1 or 2 cams... if im not mistaken.. tibbies are DOHC? ... now i called my local hyundai service department and they quoted me $1000 for both cams CDN. this is quite different than the $120 us SR charges??.. thats the deal if they are oem products?

Yes, its only the intake side cam. The exhaust cam is identical on all the beta engines. The newest beta cams, from the 2.0 from the new elantra and tibby, as well as the 1.8L beta found in the 1g tibby and early elantra's have a higher lift and duration cam on the intake side. Usually people see a 3-7hp gain with the elantra 1.8L or the XD (new 2.0L) cams.

What was Hyundai thinking when they put the intake cam in the GT but not the Tiburon.
It makes me mad. Are there any other cams available for street applications that have more lift or duration?

as far as i know, hyundai did this to gain some more low-end for the tiburon. But still it would've been nice for them to have done that already.
and apart from that SR sells RPW cams that come in 3 stages. check their website out.

Hey Decker,
How do those Stage RPW Cams work??? do you need the first two to get to stage three or something??> I'm confused with that crap. If anyone can explain it, plz, thx. What kinda horsepower can we get from those???

'Stages' is a video game concept--those old games in the arcade where you're racing for money, as you accumulate more you buy the stage one upgrade, replace it with the stage two when you can afford it....
Basically it's just a convenient way of referring to a level of performance without being encumbered by a slew of numbers ('Stage Two' is a lot shorter than '235° duration cam with .375'' lift and xx° overlap'). It's also a way of dodging specific performance claims wink (Stage 3 is 'Better' than Stage 2!!!)
