Default CAI Filter question

Ok, here the deal:

Well first off I got screwed on my CAI. Paid 95.00 for a pipe and filter...But now I added on one 90 and a straight pvc pipe...to go into the fender....It's been about 3k or so miles since the CAI. So I cleaned the filter with the K&N cleaner and oil. But now, I have a feeling that it didnt take correctly. The HP isnt there anymmore. Also, on the filter....I saw a filter like mine @autozone or pep..one of the two..and it was $20.00. Can these be cleaned? I'm about to go up there and buy another $20.00 one and test it against my "clean" one. To see if the filter is working properly since I cleaned it. And yes, I followed the directions to a tee. Tee I say. ;o) What will I see if the filter is not working properly? {I know, because when I was "testing" out my fender setup..and the filter came OFF and there was no filter what so ever on the piping...it was hella loud and no...ummm..pressure {im guessing}...but now it the same loudness...but just doesn't seem to be the same {HP wise} maybe it's something else? Please advise..this is bugging the $hit outta me!

another issue:

Seat belts suck {both}

Idles @ 800-900..but then after idling for like 15-20 seconds..drops to like 500-700 or so..not cdertain of the actual dropage..but it drops and i can fell it and hear the difference. Is this normal?

Well, I just called AutoZone and there is just like mine..and he said that if it has a wire mash on it..then it not paper..and it can be recharged...Hrmmmm...Then it's something else...What can cause HP to decrease?

If the filter is still wet when you stick it back on the car, you MIGHT notice a slight drop in HP. Maybe 1 or 2 HP on a dyno.

If you sprayed the "sticky goop" on the filter while it was still wet, that will hork it up.

What can affect HP
Engine temp
Air pressure
Air Temp
Humidity
Gas
Elevation
etc...etc..etc..

If you followed the K&N instructions...you let your filter dry for 24 hours. The difference air pressure and humidity from day to day could sap 5 hp from your tibby easy.

Your idle should be 800 RPM + or - 100.

When your car is warm. Start the car and shut off ALL accessories. Rev the engine to 3000 rpm for 20 seconds, then just let it idle. Wait 2 minutes....then read the idle. It should be as above.

But at a stand still, is it normal for it to jump every 20seconds or so..by 200-300rpm's?

Nope...not unless you have the AC compressor cycling on and off....or some other accessory cycling on and off.
