It will still get much colder air in that location. Especially if there is no fog light to get in the way.

I would highly recomend getting that shield back in, though, to help guard the filter. I have the ssautochrome one and it was a snap to install. Just do a little test fit by disconnecting the lower part from the upper and you can see where it will line up on the inner fender guard. I just took a pair of scissors and cut the plastic roughly and then sanded it with a drumb sander to smooth it out. You will be cutting it very close to the front. Mine sits nice and tight too. No shaking or rattling.

The location of the cut should look similar to this

we didn't have to cut anything to get my AEM in. it was hitting against something, so my dad just taped a pad from a bicycle hemet there. it's been almost a year and it's still there, no rattling or anything smile.gif good ol' 3rd world engineering.

lol, yeah i REALLY want to put it back on....thx for the pic and the rattling thought....cuz it rattling never occured to me. with out it i feel really vulnerable in the rain....02.gif (big puddles)

I really don't think you have anything to worry about as for water getting into the intake.I have a hose hooked up to my fog light area that brings air up to the factory airbox.
Never had a problem with water.The AEM is not taking air directly from outside,plus the filter is up fairly high.

hmm that was a big worry for me, i even looked into getting a filter for water, but it cost like $80 canadian so i didnt...
