Since iv been workin on my buddies oil prob,
i've just discovered an oil problem myself... 2 weeks ago my oil read was in between high and low on the dipstick so I added more oil, last week same thing, and I just checked again today and my read is in the mid again..
I know im not loosing oil because there are no leaks anywhere..so I must be burning it and I need a solution :

Engine burning oil is not necessarily a bad thing.
It does keep the combustion chamber lubricated.
You could be losing in 3 spots.
Piston rings, Valve Seals, Or my problem. PCV.
You should find a oil that is high in MOLY content.
Moly is a good additive for helpgin bearing keep tight tolerences. And can even seal small leaks in the valvle guide and piston rings.
Redline has a 500ppm content.
Penzoil has a 200ppm content
Honda oil is 200ppm content.
M1 synthetic is 50ppm
Royal Purple is 250ppm
Motorcraft semi synthetic is 70ppm
Havoline 50ppm
Valvoline Synoil treatment 3000ppm, yes 3000!
I have been running 3.7 quarts of 5w30 semi synthetic Motorcraft with .3 quats of Valvo synoil treatment.
Base on calculation it should be givivg me about 400-500ppm of Moly.
MOtorcraft is a great oil at only 1.42 at walmart per quart. And with the extra addtivies from the Synoil treatment (autozone).
It has done 2 major things for me.
My oil consumption is down to almost nothing.
I use have a slight piston knock when cold and some valvetrain noise, all gone.
Doesnt seem to affect HLA operation at all.

there are little coolant and oil passage ways that go from the head and block. if the gasket has parts of it that are not seated correctly, the coolant and oil passageways can mix.
make sure your coolant still looks green.

Normally if Oil is in the coolant. Then coolant is likewise in the oil.
I did not assume a headgasket because you would have noticed the oil a milk white, kinda mlike a melted milkshake.

ive seen it sometimes where it isnt noticeable in the oil though. i guess its because at the spot where they are mixing, the oil is at a higher pressure than the coolant.

in the early stages of headgasket failure.. you are MUCH more likely to find oil in the coolant. The only time coolant gets into the oil is after the engine is shut down and the oil pressure goes to zero.. but the coolant is still under pressure.
If you do find oil in the coolant, be sure to flush the radiator to get it all out.
