Default BTB & BIM

Hey Random,

I just purchased a BTB(by the way it is purple) from SharkRacing. I read the posting from July 8, 2001. You stated that the BTB by itself will not do anything since the IM opening must be enlarged to match the BTB. You also stated that I need to get a new TPS to install when installing my new BTB. My question is this, since I have purchased(& have received) the BTB I ordered, where can I find a BIM & how much is it going to cost me? Is it possible to find a "used" BIM anywhere? Also, do I need to get a TPS from a local Hyundai Dealership?

PLEASE HELP!!!! I CANNOT INSTALL THIS UNTIL I GET ALL MY DUCKS IN A ROW. I really appreciate your response in advance.

My son calls my car a "RaceCar"!

The IM can be bored out by yourself. The problem is that in other post I am asking for clear instructions.

Also why should the TPS be changed? BTW what is exactly the TPS?

I am only going off of what was said on this website for Hyundai(car repair manuals). The site is: www.hmaservice.com/webtech/. According to this site on "removing" the BTB (Bored Throttle Body) that the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor/Throttle Valve) MUST NEVER BE REMOVED. EXCEPT!!! WHEN NECESSARY FOR REPLACEMENT, THE TPS MUST NOT BE REMOVED....... The TPS sits on the left side of your TB or BTB. It's held on by (2) screws.

I am not sure exactly why the TPS needs to be replaced I am hoping someone can help me out with this. My son calls my car a "RaceCar"! TRS# 095

The IM must be bored out to match the BTB.

OnPol does this, along with gasket matching the IM. I posted some photos about a week back showing the difference between stock and bored.

Yes, you can move the TPS from one TB to the other with no problems. Just be careful with it and don't "hammer" on it or hit it. It is fairly delicate.

You can do the "simple" bore job of the IM opening yourself with a dremel, but the Gasket matching of the intake runner openings is best left to the pros.

Just make sure you wash out your IM so that no metal fragments are left in there after your bore job....

Is this "gasket matching" some sort of porting job done to the rubber gasket itself? What is it?

Look at the photos I posted a week or so back. You will see the noticable difference in the stock openings vs the OnPol modified openings.

OnPol removes the metal in the intake manifold, enlarging the opening to match the size opening in the stock gasket. Stock the IM openings are about 1/4" smaller all the way around them than the intake ports and gasket.

"gasket matching" is just enlarging the IM openings to the size of the gasket openings. It must be done carefully, as the injector sits right in that opening, and doing it wrong can hork up the way the injectors fire fuel into the intake air stream.

Random,

Matching the IM with the BTB, does it make noticeable difference? OR to see the difference, the IM openings must also be enlarged to match the size opening in the stock gasket.

Please reply. Thanks.

I have an Onpol bored TB installed (no IM though) and I noticed that the car is a lot smoother - acceleration is better.

It makes the car feel like its running really well!

I would say minimum the IM opening should be bored to match the TB. I would strongly reccomend the gasket matching of the IM.

You will still see a gain out of just boring the IM, but you should see a larger gain by also doing the ports on the IM.
