I have a 1997 tib with an automatic trannie. It works fine up to third gear. Then it doesnt shift anymore. I checked the trannie fluid and its black and i know it needs to be changed. But im wondering if this is going to fix the problem or am i gonna cough up 1,200 bucks for a trannie rebuild? You guys have helped me before with everything else. Thanks!

Then that's your problem..what about the light in your gauges? When you turn o/d on and off does that light go off and on?

Well see the car is for sale and i dont drive it much but when i did the overdrive button worked but it sat for a while and stopped working. Could a fuse that was used for the overdrive blown and left it turned off? Cause it feels like it did when i turned it off. But i dunno. If the trannie is broke i will just drop the price. I have dumped to much money into it already.

You should get those cel's read at an Autozone to see if its something minor or major.

When my tranny was going my fluid was black and smelled burnt..a few weeks after i got the tranny flushed and filled same thing happened. Then the shifts were messing up and then i got a new tranny put in. It goes in order.

But get those warning lights checked out. They can tell you a lot. If you can too..go to a transmission place; some shops check your tranny for you for free. Thats what I did.

Alright i will change the fluid this weekend and the filter. I had no idea the airbag light would come on for something like that. But what about the overdrive?!? The light doesnt come on on the dash anymore when i push the button. I dont know if its a fuse or something

Thank you guys for all your help but my mom took my car to a transmission place while i was sleeping and they took a look at it and it is shot. Now it will not shift out of 2nd gear. LOL. Thanks again!!!
