Been racing recently - need another temp gauge?
I've been out racing for the past few weekends. One was Sunday day (too danged hot to be racin', 105 heat index), and last weekend was Saturday night (still humid as hell).
Sunday the car didn't cool off @ all, it was SO hot, and there was no shade. I wasn't running the a/c or anything, but I did take the top resonator off the car. It ran slower, and slower all day.
Saturday night I put the resonator back on! Times were consistant, and improved some during the night.14.73,14.56,14.62,14.67,and bammo - 14.444
. Before the last 2 runs, I popped the hood to give 'er some air, and before staging, I put an ice pack in the air box. As far as staying consistant, it screwed me up, but the car finally ran faster.
I'm thinking I need another temp gauge on the car, But... what temp do I want to know? The factory temp gauge stays constant. Do I just need a gauge w/ numbers on it instead of the 'dummy' gauge?

Air intake temperature. The reason the stock gauge on the cluster stays the same is because, on a mostly stock engine (yes, yours is mostly stock wink ) the temperature DOES stay relatively constant.
What you are experiencing is the air temperature underhood getting higher and higher. You can monitor this via the onboard air temp sensor and the OBD2 computer system by purchasing a laptop and the OBD2 datalogger software.

The interface cable usually just plugs in to the serial port, so if you're good you can write your own software. Software isn't my profession but I was thinking of taking a hack at it myself some time, if it worked I'd release it freeware along with instruction on how to build a cable smile.gif
You can get one for now though at www.obd-2.com, they about the cheapest but not the greatest interface. Search google for 'obd software' and you'll turn up over a dozen companies.

You ran a 14.44 driving an automatic tranny? Were you racing on a 1/8 mile? You took off your top resonator when you ran it so you must not have an intake. What mods do you have that got you a mid 14 sec pass?
Looking in your profile it says you have a mustang and a tib. Were you racing the mustang and not the tib?
