Default Re: Winterizing ur car

don't know what is the matter but it really upsets me...
every once in awhile (not all the time!) when i shift into drive the car will jump (as if it would if your rpms were high in neutral and u shifted it into drive, like it needs to catch up). whenever the car does this, it will get stuck in a gear, so if you step on it it won't down shift and wind up it will just gradually increase in the gear its in. the tranny fluid seems really good and clean. if the car is doing this and i shut it off and start it back up again it will be just fine, it is completely random and is sort of rare but bothers me :-(. it does this after the car has been warmed up also, but if you shut it off then back on again it will work normally and shift smoothly like it usually does...no idea what to do or what the problem is, has anyone experienced something similar? or can anyone give me some advice? thx

Default I've had a bad week...

Hmmm....if you checked the auto tranny mechanically already and seen that all is pretty much in order (i.e. good oil level, no particles in oil, oil doesn't smell burned) then this problem can be related to the auto tranny's piggy-back ECU and prolly the main ECU as well.

Have you done anything electrical to your car before the problem started? I suggest that if you still have the warranty you take it for a more in-depth diagnostics that will take care of it for sure. However, you might want to check the connections between the piggy-back and main ECU make sure its securely connected (they should be on drive side tucked up on the far left). While your under there also checked for striped and exposed wires or faulty wires in general. If all looks ok then pop your hood look at the wire harness connecting to the actual trans, if you installed a custom CAI chances are the piping going down thru the trans could have damaged some wires on the harness, this can happen if pipe is up against the harness or wires the vibrations can cause the wires to strip and such, but I am just guessing here since its difficult to know what exactly is going on w/out seeing your car.

I am telling you now if you race by means of keeping it in neutral revving to 3.5K and dumping it into drive to get a faster take off, chances are you fried the series of delicate auto clutches in the trans, so then you need to take it to a trans specialist to repair it or get a new one.

So check the following:

-Interior harness and wires between main ECU and pigy-back ECU

-Harness connection on tranny.

I have an RD1 auto and I am giving you info based on my car. Hope it helps!

No, obviously no one knows what the problem is. Stop bringing this up every day.

Someone will answer if they know. Go take a gander at Webtech.

try a flush, if that doesnt work then go with the TCU

just try some troubleshooting worse thing if you flush your tranny then you cleaned it out lol
