Sure. On the bottom of the shifter there is a little knob that sticks out. This is what the shifter pivots on. The stock one has a distinctly shaped end, but the ARK one is a circle with a flatened bottom. Here is a picture of the stock white thing:
The replacement looks like a cap with no open sides. The only thing I can think of that was happening was the bottom metal piece was catching on the sides of the stock piece. Hopefully that explains it well enough.

Yeah, that makes sence. I don't remember my OEM cap looking that way, but I have had 6 different short shifters, so who knows.
