901 WHP Street Supra... Question!
I bought (because I had nothing to read) a magazine called Turbo & High-Tech Performance. There they had feature article about a street Supra that has whooping 901 WHP. I was wondering what's the maximus WHP the stock Tiburon's 4 cylinder engine can go up to? I read that some Korean tune up shop boosted Tibby's HP upto 400+. How safe is it to have stock 140HP engine modified to 400+ HP? Last question. When is the best time (after how many miles) to put a turbo and all other heavy HP boost performance mod?
I dont see any Hyundai ever matching the Supra, basically because the Supra's the one with the twin turbo straight-6 in it.It's engine parts are also uncommonly tough, and can take enough boost to turn our Betas into so much scrap metal!
If you think in terms of displacement. The 600+ wheel hp Betas are on par with the 900 hp Supra's 3.0L engines. Also remember that that most if not all Supras running more than 600 wheel hp are squeezing a little to alot of nitrous.
I think that all three Supras putting down 700+ hp were on the gas... my guess is 100 to 200 hp shots. Of course I haven't seen the bigger hp Beta engines running both the turbo and nitrous... yet. Some of the 300 - 400 hp ones have with limited success.
Next year I will try to push one of the shops into running a huge turbo and maybe a 100 hp shot of Nitrous using the Haltech.
