Im just thinking from a cost stand point. If you do 3000 miles, thats about 4 oil changes per year. If you go 4000, then you can get away with only 3. But would it be harmful to the engine?

For most modern synthetics, 10,000 might be fine so long as you change the filter in the middle somewhere and keep it topped off. 3k was the recommendation from the days of conventional oil going into engines which were well-and-truly finished for good at 100,000 miles.

Run Pennzoil Platinum synthetic with an OEM filter, and shoot for 5000 but don't kick yourself for letting it go until 6,500.
