Default 4-2-1 Headers

I'm thinking of getting the 4-2-1 Headers. Anyone have a basic install guide? How hard are they to install? Do I need any other parts, or will this hook on to stock at both ends? And approx. how much hp/tq will I gain? Any help would be appreciated.

Relatively easy to install. The header itself is pretty much an out with the old, in with the new kind of install. I think you can re-use the gasket.

Problem is, though, it will not match up to the stock exhaust setup. I believe that the 4/2/1 is too long, which means you'll have to do some cutting on your stock exhaust to amke room and move the cat farther down the line. You will also need to relocate the second of two oxygen sensors. Most people figure that, if they're going through all this hassle, they might as well just get a custom cat-back setup put in instead.

Not sure about the HP gain. It's hard to say how much JUST the headers get, since it usually results in a new cat-back exhaust installation, as well. Someone has the numbers, though.

So the 4-2-1 is too long for a 2001? I wouldn't want to deal with the cutting, seems like too much pain. I guess I'll wait till I can afford the part and the install unless anyone else has any bright ideas.

To be honest, putting headders on the stock exhaust system is like trying to breath through a funnel. Sure your mouth by be at the big end...but the far end of the opening is so small, it's hard to breath...

If you do the headers, get a custom 2.25 or 2.5" exhaust. If you want to save money, go with the headers and KORE, or MBRP or Pacesetter Cat back units, and just have your local exhaust shop weld up pipes to fit the difference.

Hey Random is the 4-1 too long or too short cause i would prefer not to cut the new MBRP exhaust i am planing on getting. I would much rather add a piece of pipe. Does the 4-1 add low end or high

Thanks

I think 4-1 adds high end hp.

If I understand correctly, you would be hard-pressed to find a set of headers anywhere that would ADD low-end torque. In order to gain low-end torque, you would have to add back pressure. This will cost you torque at the high-RPM end, when your engine has to fight to exhale. Most aftermarket headers tend to be more free-flowing over stock, which is great for contributing to mid or high end torque, but reduces torque at the low-RPM end. There's no free lunch. The 4-2-1 headers are a good comprimise...they take away a little low-end power, but spread it out fairly evenly over the mid and high end powerbands. The 4-1 headers drain away more torque from the low end, and push it all towards the high side.

I guess I'll let this one roll on over to phase 2! Anyone done this work and have a ballpark figure of what it will cost?
