Default 2 CATs???? WTF???

I just noticed my car has 2 cats. I never noticed the close coupled cat attached to the manifold till a couple of days ago. rolleyes.gif Anyone know why the tib has 2 catalytic converters? can i remove the one thats underneath the car? i would have to redo my custom exhaust, but i dont care....if i can remove it i certainly will. Please lemme know if you guys know anything about this setup. Thanx!

The 2000 tibs and previous years only had 1 cat. the in 2001 they added a second cat. that can be removed, there are no O2 sensors after the second cat.

Tibs with california emissions have 2 cats. Some apparently have a cat-looking resonator and a cat.

Ding Ding!! we have a winner tongue.gif

but yah seriously, unless its a cali. spec car that second "CAT" is just a resinator. i imagine the next question will be "Well can i remove it when i add an exhaust?" and the answer will alway be "Most Definately good sir!, and you rightly should!!" wink
