I've heard too many horror stories from 2 1/2. I just had my 00 Elantra Auto done with 2 1/4" piping today, and it kicks major ass.

I would play it safe and go with 2 1/4".

If you have manual transmission, then it doesn't matter too much if you go with 2.5" or 2.25" pipe. On the other hand, if you have automatic transmission, you really (or might want) 2.25" pipe.

Hey there's already another posting about this called "cat back exhaust" under this forum. But anyhow i'll lend you my advise. Whether or not you have a 5-speed or an Auto., it's the displacement that decides how big the exhaust piping should be. 1.8l/2.0l should use nothing bigger than 2.25" to properly excavenge the gasses without power losses and thats cutting it close. Now on the other hand, if you had some sort of forced induction, go as big as you can get. Just take a peek at the other posting. wink

buy the right exhaust for what you have now!
If you aren't getting the turbo for another year or more then don't get the 2.5

Get the 2.25 and be happy buy for what you have not for what you MIGHT have!

They stock exhaust measures 2" so why bother just upgrading .25". I have 2.5" and GAINED low end despite what every one else says. If you plan on doing alot of N/A mods you should do the 2.5". HVE sells 2.5" piping so does a few other HYUNDAI companies. If you want to spend $100-200 to upgrade .25" piping go ahead but IMO you are wasting you money. I'll put my 2.5" piped Elantra against any 2.25" Tib/Elantra in a race.

then take off the resantor or even better get a different muffler or do you have headers or is it stock setup with 2.25 i think headers will make it louder

i,m going to have sr's 4-2-1 headers to one high flow cat to a 20inch resantor then to a stainless steel dual tip muffler all with 2.25 inch piping getting it installed tommorow morning if i can i will post sound
