Ok heres the question. I got a 97 tib wit the 1.8. The trans is already bad. so instead of just replacing trans. How hard is it to replace with say a 00-01 2.0 motor and trans. everyhting looks pretty nuch similar. What would i need to do that swap? smile.gif

Pretty sure it's just a straight swap, no problems with it. Be sure to keep you camshaft and ECU and put it in the 2.0 for better performance and mileage!
I think all you need is the full trans and motor and you should be ok.
Try searching a bit, there should be more information out there somewhere.

some stuff is different on the 00-01. I did that exact swap, but I went from Auto 97 to Manual 00. I did a lot more than just the engine, but I think if you have an auto 97 and you want the 00-01 motor and auto trans, you'll need both the ECU and the TCM for the updated tranny.

Hey man, why two threads on the same thing? Ill try to get someone to join them or whatever. For future references, one thread on a topic is enough. And on this topic searching would help a lot. Good luck with the swap if you do it!

It's all the same shit dude. Although, you may have to switch ECU's. On the 97 tibs you may or may not have a charcoal emissions box by where the cold air intakes go, right under your battery.. No idea how the system works, but I'm sure if you get a different ECU and seal the passages to it (Should be real easy once everything is out) it should work like a charm. You may not even have to change your ECU. If it is a rev A ECU though, it would be a good idea to change it anyways. I'm not an expert on tib engine swaps by any means, but you can take from 98-01 2.0l engines with no problems or modification I believe. The trans as well is swappable. Even on the Beta2's the trans is swappable, you just have to grind a piece down a bit to fit it. Talk to Zoned though, he did a swap on his 97 with a 2000 or 2001 engine/trans.

And you noobs really need to start reading the rules, and use the search button.

Here you go, two pages worth of engine swap information.

All this said, if you can't see how hard/easy it would be for you to swap the engine in your car, read a lot more, help some friends with their engine swaps, then look at the tib again. It is a VERY simple engine. There is not many sensors or wiring on the tiburon. You want wiring? Go look at a V6 Avenger. That sucks. Our engine bay is very open when you take out the intake system and the exhaust system. You can wrap your arms around the engine. Think about things and learn as much as you can before you go knee deep in anything you can't handle. And when you do swap it, buy a box of Ziploc bags, a sharpie marker, and label every nut, bolt, plug, sensor, hose, vacuum line, get all your torque specs, and take lots of pics with a digital camera. It makes life much easier to have reference points to where everything goes... Good luck.
