all I can say.. you guys must be really hard on your trannys. The tranny in my 99 has almost 60,000 (replaced under warrenty at 33,000) and I have never had a problem shifting it through any of the gears...

QUOTE (pare_john)
the reason 1st is harder to shift into is because there is no synchro for first. the best way is to double clutch(this is what people had to do before synchros) cluch, neural, take foot off clutch, clutch then go into first
^^go with this one guys

...also. reverse does have a little "latch" if you wanna call it that that does not allow you to throw it into reverse while going at speeds....believe me i've tried and it makes the most aweful noise you'd ever want to hear come out of the tranny

yup.... or also called half clutching by some of my friends.... let the clutch out almost half way... then put it down into gear (mainly for reverse) this works every single time for me

Hey guys, I dont mean to bring up an old post, but I had a question;

I just got a new clutch and flywheel installed. Seems to be working great. I have been noticing, even before the clutch install, that 1st gear is a pain to get in. Seems everyone is having this problem.

Has anyone tried different tranny/gear oil and gotten better results???? I think they used Mobil One gear oil, would I be better off using OEM? Does anyone know what brand gear oil our OEM tranny's came with?
