For my next mod I am thinking of doing the 1.8L Ecu swap. I have one question though. Does it affect your gas mileage? The price of gas lately is killing me.

honestly, if you want to do any modifications that will make your tib faster, you can expect your gas mileage to drop, as a general rule. though the difference short of going turbo shouldn't be too bad. Think of it this way, when I started with my tib, it was a stock 1.8liter engine, and i got about 430 miles to the tank, now its the 2.0 engine with a few mods, and I'm lucky if I get 390 miles to the tank. By the way, if gas for a tib is a big deal, you shouldn't be thinking of engine mods.

but, all mods that will make engine more efficient, so it would be easier for the engine to work, such as flow-though exhaust, CAI, light weighted puleys, flywheel... All these should make fuel consumption better (more MPG) if you drive your car same way as without those mods.

Theoretically that is true, but realistically you won't get better mileage when your foots to the friggin floor putting all those mods to good use!! laugh.gif

I have the 1.8 L ECU, and you know what?

36MPG for the past week, with my trip to Vegas and other mods of course.

Wow 36 MPG. I don't even come close to that now. Might as well do the mod. For how cheap it is especially. If my gas mileage goes down I can always put back in my old ECU.

Problem is FINDING a 1.8l ECU. Do you think the dealership could order a 98 Elantra ECU for me? Or perhaps Autozone has salvaged ones in stock...

Just call up your local junkyard. They should have one.
