I'm planning on doing a 1.8 cam swap (among other things) and I was wondering

if you could remove just the intake cam without removing the exhaust.

Yes you can. You may need to remove the bearing cap on the #5 exhaust journal so that you can remove the timing chain guide. I say may because mine did not have an upper chain guide. ???)
Once you remove all the caps on the intakse side you'll be able to lift it up and take the chain off. If you haven't already check out the 1.8l cam DIY in the DIY forum.

I only pulled the intake cam with I did mine. Did not have to touch anything on the exhaust side.
