Ok, here's the thing. I pulled a motor today and the head on the 2.0 was damaged. I pulled a 1.8 head and it fit on the block. Is there any differences between the two heads besides the cams?

 

that is a VERY good question. I know on my fiats, using a 1.8 on the 2.0 engines will bump the compression slightly...

Have you compared the used head gaskets to make sure it is an exact fit?

 

It says right on the head gasket for 1.8 & 2.0l motors. I checked car-part.com and one of the heads says "FACTORY REBUILT 1.8-2.0". Another site said that the head has 1.8 2.0 stamped on it. I am just concerned about valve size and head displacement. I know that the head bolts right up cause I put it on to get the motor/trans out of the junkyard.

I will check the head later, but after all the fun I had pullin the motor in the rain... it wont happen till tomorrow at the very earliest smile.gif

 

looking at it that way.. there is probably no difference outside of the intake cam. The engine used in my spider evolved over the years (decades really) and only grew in displacement as needed. Hyundai immediatly built the 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 from the very beginning.. so no doubt they tried to make it as cheap as possible and just made one head for the 1.8 and 2.0.

 

I looked at many sites, and it seems like the displacement difference between the 1.8 & 2.0 is the stroke only. From what I read the bore is the same, so the hight of the cylinders is the only change (posted by random) so I trust it.

This is a good thing... If I pulled the motor out in the freakin rain and the head wouldnt work... I wouldnt be happy tongue.gif
