I bought a cam from this guy, and I told him that I wanted a 1.8L intake cam so that I could swap it w/ my 2.0L cam. I got home and I saw that it was a 1.6L cam. He says that it's from a 98 or 99 Elantra.

Do you guys know if the 1.6L cam is more beneficial than the 1.8L cam? pros? cons? He says he can take it back, but I'm looking into whether it's a better deal to put in the 1.6Lcam instead of the 1.8. BTW, there's a code engraved on the 1.6cam. It says "J.2". Not sure if this means anything???

Going from what SOCKS said, and I hope I am not getting this wrong, but I thought the only 1.6l were like the Euro Beta's and accents? How would there be a 1.6l cam in the US? Unless you are from outside the US... Whatever. There was a thread where someone discussed the 1.6l cam swap and I remember hearing it wasn't a good idea I think... I'll look for it. On the other hand, there is a few 1.8l elantras at a junk yard right by my house, you want me to find a price on one and grab it for you if you want it?

I'm in Toronto. The guy who sold it to me said that it must've been from a european model which was at the junkyard, where he got it from.

Can you please point me to the thread which talked about the 1.6 cam swap? I tried searching, on here, but searching with the word cam, yields NOTHING! not even the 1.8L cam diy.

He says he will take it back and exchange it for a 1.8L cam (but he's away from Dec 10 - 15). So, if the consensus is that the 1.6L cam swap isn't good, then I'll talk to him so that he can give me a 1.8 like I asked for, in the first place. I'm open to your offer, though, BlizagaXx, for getting me a cam... let me just wait 'til next week until he gets back.

1.6L is the Alpha engine, and no, it won't fit, completely different engine.

There was also a 1.6 beta introduced outside of North America. Who really knows what cam you actually have.

Look up engine specs of the 1.6 and see if it it'll be beneficial to you to swap cams to the 1.6. I hardly doubt it tho.

Ya, there are a couple posts about it. I have searched everywhere for the specs of the Beta 1.6l intake came, but have found nothing. The only way to get that information would be from a dealer in a country where the 1.6l was sold.

None of them were sold in North America, so you either got the wrong cam from a 1.6L Alpha, of a rare 1.6L Beta imported, but I would bet on the Alpha

Its out of the Alpha Accent motor. I highly doubt there is a 1.6 beta that was imported. I would just swap for the right onw.

Here you go, talk to this guy. Spawn77 from norway has the 1.6 beta.

He might know a bit more about it or may be able to find out more about it.
