01 tib idle vibration
the rattling noise I'm not to worried about, I plan on putting subs in soon. But the shaking on my stering wheel is not good. I have a friend with a civic that has over 200k on it and it doesn't vibrate the steering wheel.
I just don't think that a car with 64k on it should be having problems like this.

I had a similar problem with my tib around 30,000 miles....took it to my dealer and they found that my engine had shifted on the mounts....they told me it was due to excesivly hard driving, ya right a stock 2001 should not have the power to do that ...anyway the loosened my motor mounts let the engine settle and retightened, no more vibration
I was having hesitation/hiccup problems and my car was idling high as all get out way before that. They told me that cylinder 4 was misfiring due to carbon buildup. I have a 2000 with only 55K miles. I've never even heard of carbon buildup before. Ah well.....they said it's regular maintenance to get it cleaned out every 15K miles so I had to pay for it. But once it was done and I replaced the spark plugs.....AGAIN!!!!!.....now it's not idling so high.
bad engine mounts could be to blame.. if the engine has settled, it could be touching something either on the frame or elswhere.. transmitting the vibration to the steering and then the wheel. Four Cylinder engines are not the smoothest engines in the world. I believe the smoothest design to be the 10 cylinder with the way the firing order cancels out the harmonics of it's spin. The beta has balancing shafts that are set up to offset some of the four's inherent instability.. so you are right.. it is NOT normal for you to feel it in the wheel.
As for idle.. about 900 sounds right.. give or take 50rpms is normal
So.. jow is the vibration.. is it steady? does it seem to "thrum" as if rising and falling in pitch.. or is it rough and sort of unpredictable?
