Here's an idea!
How about changing it from key-in, doors-open = chime to a key-in, doors-open = interior light turn on!
Brilliant. I love it.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I didn't find any DIY to remove it, I ment I found the bell thing under my dashboard. I just had the keys in the ignition and tried to listen for it with a flash lights, and I felt this little thing vibrating and then disconected the wires like I read before in a how to from another site.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>It's right to the left of the radio. You can get to it from under the dashboard.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>to get rid of the key in igntion chime you can cut your keysence wire... should be a light green wire comming off your cylender. {smaller guage}</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>There are 2 different chime boxes. One for keys in, door open. One for lights on, door open. I took the first one out and smashed it.</div>

i don't want to cut any wiring...can someone please be a little more descriptive here? how exactly do you disconnect the wires? or is it a box? do you need to remove anything, or can you literally reach up in there & do this? i have found no solid info on this anywhere.

i have a 2000...i have both chime when keys in/door open, and a different chime when lights on/door open. i've read alot of conflicting information about chime boxes, no chime boxes, 2 chime boxes, 2 chimes, 1 chime. what color is the chime box or boxes?

Easy fix, no wire cutting, nothing. Just loosen the lower dash panel (under the steering wheel) far enough so you can access under there. You don't have to fully remove it, just enough to get your hands (and head and flashlight if you're daring) in there. Directly to the right of the steering wheel there's the little metal box. It's kinda hard to find exactly, but it's there. Gold colored box, about 1" cube. Above the stereo, but below the vents, just to the right of the dash panel you took off (so you do have to sorta reach around to the right). There's a wire coming off it that has a disconnect clip. As far as I know it's the only easily accessible wire under there with a disconnect like that. Unclip it and you're good to go!
The only effect it has is that the dinging has stopped. All lights (including the seatbelt light on the gauges) and other notifications or warnings work just as normal. Not sure where the headlight dinger is or anything else, but this one I know for sure. Just did it a week or two ago, and it is sooo nice!

have the bell that never quits, i did this to mine tried unhooking it and pulled every wire off the dang thing and disconnected it completely i just left it bolted on and for some unknown reason the thing still freaking dings! its like the bell from below there isnt a single wire on it and i know i got the right one cuz i can feel it vibrating and the headlight bell still works too so i know i didnt disconnect the wrong ones its dumb i hate that stupid thing i think im going to rip it out and smash it but im afraid it will continue to ding

all i did was take off the top cover of the steering column(pull up) and unscrew the white 1in x1in box on top of the key cylinder. Then just use a zip tie with the switch upside down in the same spot, so it does not vibrate.

no more chime

It's so much easier to just look under with the door open and find the box "dinging" and just unhook it, then you can always plug it back in if you find yourself leaving the keys in your car lol.

^^ What are you talking about?

All rd2's came with the door chime, some/all rd1's do not have the door chime.
