no one has any input about my mystery ECU? I guess I'm just gonna put it in and see what happens.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tibbychick @ May 20 2007, 06:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I have a completely different number than those listed. I got the ECU from a 98 Elantra at the junkayard. The number is 39150-23951. The weird thing is, on the side on the yellow sticker, the number is teh same except it's 39140 insteaqd of 39150. Does that make a difference? We brought the ECU to the dealer to see if he could tell if it was Rev A or not, but he couldnt even find anything to match the number. Is this an anomoly? I am 90% sure that the 1.8 ECU I have in my tib now and have had for about 2 years is Rev A, and is causing all my emissions problems. So I wanna swap the new one i have but not if it will cause problems as well.</div>

Oo

After a little searching on car-part.com I found that serial. Its to a 1999 Elantra, which means its not 1.8 (as all betas were 2.0 1999-). It should run fine, being its just another 2.0 ECU, its Canada - Fed spec (not California)

1999

Hyundai Elantra 3-99,ID 39150 23951 ,.232

Best of luck with your emissions problem... My thoughts on that are if the tests are coming up blank, and you have done the full drive cycle suggested another member here, then it could be your ECU. It might not be storing the data properly, so when the computer reads it, it comes up incomplete.

That'd be my guess!

YES! Thank you. I just put it in, and hopefully it will run smoothly now so I can get it to pass emissions next week. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

OK, so apparently the one that I just replaced, #39110-23900 is from a 1.8 96 Elantra, according to what mr_jeckel posted. So that was bad ECU and now I have a 2.0 ECU, and my quest begins for a good 1.8 ECU.

I have the 39110-23920 ECU from a 1.8 97 Elantra, and my car runs good. Honestly, the ECU swap was noticeable, but that is about it. I didn't get a big change in mileage (still about ~260 miles per tank), although I do run my car pretty hard. I did notice a decent top end gain with a slight loss in low end torque. The 39110-23940 ECU is probably the one you want, but I could not find a 98 Elantra to save my life, so I had to settle with the aforementioned ECU. I'm happy with it.

Do you have a check engine light from it?

I put the 2.0 ECU back in and drove it for about 1 hour and a half. Seems to be running ok, CEL has stayed off but I dont think Ive driven it enough. I do wanna play it safe and get the recommended ECU. For now, I just wanna pass emissions.

Well if anyone wants a good chuckle here we go,
I got my ecu today from a junkyard who swore to me that the donor car was a 98 Elantra 1.8L. He stated that "I just took it out myself". Anyways, after getting it, and this is the weird part, the number reads 95440-28329, which is nothing like any of the other numbers so far. I was sure to ask him that the computer was FROM a 98 Elantra and not just COMPATIBLE with one, so any help or knowledge on what the crap this thing is would be of great help. Not too sure if I want to plug it into the car until I know a little more about it...if anyone wants a picture, I'm sure I could get one up. Thanks smile.gif

UPDATE: Never mind. He sent me the transmission computer, instead of the ECU. Looks like I'm going to be giving him a call.

so where is this ECU from, the 97 elantra ?

39110-23920

what is the diff between this one and the 39110-23940 <<< ???? which is the one we want.

ya know what, who cares

i just used car-parts.com

searched 98 elantra

engine computer

and hundreds of listings came up, so on each page i used the find window, (control-F) and looked for 23940, and found all the listings for 23940 on each page, so far after only looking at 3 pages i have 22 listings for 23940.

some list only the last 5 numbers of the part, some list it like this:

39110-23940
23940
3911023940

so using the find on this page button in different combinations works best

price range

49.99 to 75 for the ones i noted

but they go up to hundreds of dollars which is silly.

ok im out

This swap did nothing for me. I got the best 1.8 ECU, and noticed no difference. Exact same gas mileage, throttle response, no HP gains, though it did get rid of my dead spot at 4k.
