Unfortunately i didn't take any pictures of this before, so if you have any of your stock pics, just throw the URLs my way. I was inspired to do this after driving my buddy's 05 mustang. If you've ever driven one, you'll know why.
This mod will give you an overall reduction in size of 1 3/4" and the feel of a short shifter, for a cheap price (the cost of aceteline and beer). This mod will lessen the distance you have to shift allowing you to keep your arm stationary. It gives the car a more sportier feel. Most importantly, it retains the stock look, which i'm all about. (see 18+ thread on best way to stick it in the tail pipe )
The tiburon's Long (height) shifter feels like a truck to me. I put this on, and it's a much more sportier feeling to drive. Less leverage, less distance.
You will need
Stock Tiburon
Socket set
Adjustable wrench
Needle nose Plyers
Asceteline welder
Welding rod
Large plyers vice grips
Water to cool shifter
1 Hr time
beer of choice
1> Start by removing the Stick shift knob

*NOTE: picture is completed project and is used for a reference of bolt locations and guide locations
2> Remove Boot and Cover Assemblly by pulling gently but firmly
3> Remove (1) shifting mechanisim retaining pin and slide ring off stick shift
4> Remove (1) bolt and (1) Nut along with (2) washers and (1) lockwashers with ratchet and adjustable wrench

you should have a shifter that resembles my poor drawing
*note: a muffler shop should be able to do the work for you

5> start by cutting the base of the shifter 1-1/4th inch from bottom

6> Bend the shifter straight using a blow torch or welder and a large pair of plyers or Vice Grips and cool shifter
7> Drill press the origonal stick shift mount out of MFG's hole on base mount
*Note: you may need to use a small piece of wood to fit inside the U shape base to keep the unit from moving.

8> ADD 10-30 degree angle to the base of the boot retainer for a better look and feel.
note* I did not do this, but i will shortly.

9> Weld Stickshift from bottom of base mount into place using welding rod
Cool shifter
Ready for install

10> install (1) bolt, (2) washers, (1) lockwasher and (1) nut)
11> attach shifting mechanisim with clip
12> Affix shift boot assy

Should look like this when complete...
13> STFU about the dust. I'm a daily driver.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KayJai @ Apr 20 2005, 09:13 AM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Less leverage,...
Same distance that the shifter has to move to move the cables. There is NO change in that
<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div>
The shifter has to move those cables the same distance somehow unless you replace your shifting mechanisim on the tranny. This mod will lessen the distance YOU have to shift. .....and again, gives the car a better feel and retains the stock look, which i'm all about. (see 18+ thread on best way to stick it in the tail pipe ninja.gif )
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KayJai @ Apr 20 2005, 10:08 AM )</div><div class='quotemain'> you cooled the shifter outside of the car right? just making sure you didnt get any water in there.
overall, not bad, but nobody has the tools required to do this.<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div>
Just a sugguestion... If you don't have the tools, any muffler shop *should* be able to do it for a couple of bucks. If you pull the shifter out, It's just 2 cuts, bend, drill, weld operation on a piece of 1/2 inch steel.

I'll give you advice (advice from the biggest quad poster, 4 post in row rolleyes.gif ) - don't double post! If you want to add something or answer to somebody else post - use EDIT.
I see somebody already took care of the double posts... but word to the wise, take Dmitry's advice. He took a small vacation over his quad posts.
As for the shorter shifter.. congratulations, you made it harder to drive your car. Not only does it now take MORE effort to shift.. but you have to move your hand further from the steering wheel to the shift knob. Don't believe me? Check out ANY real production based race car.. they have long and tall shifters that put the knob very near to the wheel.
And btw.. having driven a truck.. the one I drove had a very short shift lever. Not much bigger than the Tibs. The beauty of remote linkage.

ahhaha..... as if someone were going to put a stickshift that high in a tib, you're a crazy guy!! Anyways... i havn't got to move my arm from it's comfortable position on the arm rest, and unless there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with your car or you are BADLY in need of a lube, it shouldn't take more then the weight of a few fingers to put it in gear.
