The led's that you have used are they 3 mm or 5 mm ?

 

It's possible to use either. I've used both in the heater. The best choice is 3MM because of the size of the work that's being done by hand, a smaller LED allows for more error.

 

Reviveing this i know, but i have a few questions.

DTN what is the 6 10" strands of wire for? I really didnt see were you used them. Did you use them on the HVAC console?

How exactly did you cut the circuit on the cruise and defoger? Did you solder the resistor on the circuit you cut, if so how?

Can anybody help me out on getting a clock lens in Red and how much?

dremel+cutoff wheel. cut where i drew the line, only through that piece of the circuit. you have a good amount of room beneath, but don't go too far down with the wheel.

then just solder a resistor to join the circuit back up. 1/4 watt ones fit conveniently into the little space right next to it.

1/4 watt, is it the 470 ohm ones? Sorry, i'm not very bright, dont know much about this electrical stuff.

This is my first attempt and i want to learn, but i dont want to make a mess of everything. There is a saying in spanish "Makeing a mess of things is how you learn" but i dont believe it and i really dont want to do that.

I only have 470 ohm resistors, do i have to buy the 1/4 watt ones if it's a higher one?

higher watt resistors are bigger to dissipate more heat and wont fit when you try to get the thing back together. if you got the ebay special with free resistors than you probably got ones that are fine.

 

yup yup, i got the ebay special, with 470 ohm resistors.

The wire is for the heater and a few other places. It's good to have jumper wires available.

I used a cutoff wheel on a dremmel. You can cut into the plastic with the same cutoff wheel and make a path for the resistor's leads to lay in the plastic, then solder it so that it fits inlaid in the switch.

I can help you with getting a red clock lens. Um.. $20 sound good?


Make sure with those 470 ohm resistors that you're using 2 leds in series with 1 resistor like power-LED-LED-Resistor-Ground. for single LEDs on the illumination circuit, i've found that a 560 ohm resistor works best.

lnheart you will find that several people have used lighting sheets for stage lights bought off of ebay to change the color of the clock.
