For the bottom resistor on the left, put as many in paralell as you think you'll need, it prevents shorting if the output wires touch. IE... If you use a 2 W potentiometer, use 2 1W resistors in paralell, or 3 for a 3W potentiometer. The output LED and resistors will change per color. read the top to find out more about them

I'll do a schematic and component drawing this weekend. My CAD is down right now and i don't feel like using paintbrush. I'll put it up soon though.

here you go, should be enough to make sence.

Electronics workbench also identified a problem with adjustment. If you turn it up too high, you may burn out a potentiometer. I never had this problem. I just did my adjustments and everything came out fine. But just so you know it's a potential problem.

A work around would be to either A: eliminate the voltage limiting circuit alltogether, or B: put a LED in place of a standard diode.

I love this program.

damn great cad drawing, im going to try it with my speakers in my room! lol
when i finally get a tibby im putting about 4 lines of 4 in. cold cathode bars in a line like this:

______________
string one
-------------------
_______________
string 2
--------------------
_______________
string 3
--------------------
it shuold be easy cause it would use the 12v rail on ur battery or w/e right?
and how easy would it be to code a plugin for winamp for this?(or any L.E.D setup?)

Great nice simple project (well simple i guess if you have a bit of electronics knowledge). regarding the signal based on frequency instead of voltage you dont necessarily have to go digital. you could use several bandpass filters and then have a open collector trasistor drive a whole bunch of leds on a string. you could also sample the signal from a line out on a amp/deck (if it has it) then you dont tie up speaker outs and dont have to worry about power requirements, and thats only one way i have other ideas also.... wow this is getting a little more complicated. If you interested PM me i have the abilities to get boards made cheap, maybe we can come up with something....
