I tried it in a virtual machine. It sucks. This is classic every-other-version beta for M$ . Lets go waaaay back.
DOS good
Windows 1 & 2 bad
3.xx good
95 bad
98 good
ME bad
XP good
Vista bad
Win7 good
Guess whats next....
Anyway, i recommend that everyone upgrade to Ubuntu or any other Linux and keep your Windows installs inside of a virtual machine where you can roll them back to before they self-destruct without trying to use windows recovery (which js the first target of viruses).

What ARE you talking about? 98 was still crap, ME just made it look tolerable.
Xp was a total abomination, 2000 was SO much more stable and capable (for its time)
8 is decent if you have a tablet interface, otherwise an annoying pig of an OS. IMHO

I think we are about to see a sea change. A paradigm is about to shift. For many, many years I have been waiting for a Linux distribution to be close enough to 95/XP (from a user standpoint) and compatible enough (like XP was) for everyone to use. Then people would migrate away from Microsoft. We're just about there. This could be the trigger.
According to Bill Gates, MS is going all-in on the smartphone/tablet "experience" as the new way users will use Windows on their desktops. Most of the changes can probably be explained pretty well if somebody were to take the time to hold a new 8 user's hand while they learn how to work their computer. "Some of us" don't want to be forced to totally change the user experience. I don't care to learn a new system, but apparently I will have to, if I get a new computer and the hardware won't support 7 or XP. I don't care to treat my 32" non-touch display all the way across the desk like it was a 7" tablet. Sure, probably you will be able to turn off all the new stuff and have it behave like 7. I'm guessing a few zillion people won't care to take the time, and XP and 7 piracy will continue LONG after those are no longer supported at all. Sorta like how everyone is still using Office 97.
8 is effectively a whole new Operating System. You know what else is a whole new operating system but also is free, and looks and behaves pretty much like I like it? Oh, AND you don't have to beg permission to use your own computer? f*cking UBUNTU!!!
If they don't rework the default interface a bit, PC users are going to be . . . somewhat unenthusiastic about buying into 8. Tablet users might like it. This might prove to have been a Very Bad Idea for Microsoft.
edit: check out all the videos of people's first interactions with 8 on Youtube. First impressions are critical and so far, this is a total flub by MS.
