Before torrents really took off, there was Napster, Bearshare, Kazaa, and Limewire. I used them all before I switched to torrents only but man Napster was the absolute best when it first came out.

I used to use Napster. Call me a weeny if you want, but I never kept a song longer than 30 days without either deleting it or buying it. I'm a big fan or artists embracing online content, but they have to be able to make money from it or they'll resist new technologies.

I used the hell out of LimeWire for single music downloads. But, I always bought the CD's of the bands I liked because even in my youth I believed in backing up artists. Used Columbia House and "the other one" to buy crazy amounts of CD's.

Napster and Limewire were my choices. The other ones always gave your computer AIDS. I used Columbia House a lot too back in the day. Couldnt beat getting 12 CD's for a penny in the initial sign up promos.
