You used to always see commercials with the cow box. Now you never hear anything at all anymore about them. Did they go out of business?

They were bought out by Acer. You can still buy Gateway computers. The brand still exists.

EMachines = Gateway with 1-900 technical support. Don't buy EMachines for your parents. blink.gif

yeah i heard emachines were a "custom" built computer, not an actual company like hp for say.

there are some good things about toshiba, but overall i've gone through 4 toshibas all with the same results. a few of my friends have too. battery problems, screens not working, plugs falling out, hard drives crashing, not innovative, they're fragile and heavy, paint rubs off after a short time. and for a decade their battery socket has been moving so you have to put a book on top of the plug for it to charge. i still can't get my laptop to turn on after it gave up. ...etc.

by the way i agree with you on the other thread about Macs and creative people. i'm a graphic design major, but i got my Mac way before knew i'd have to get one.

My ancient Toshiba Tecra 8000 still works. I use it for tuning because it has a serial port.
