Default Video Editing...

Anyone know any good video editing freeware thats out there? I bought an HD video cam and I'm gonna be doing some promo videos of me at the club and I want to put together something pretty cool. I know some freeware will place a watermark on videos, and I definitely dont want anything that does that. If anyone has anything, or know of good freebies...point me in the right direction! smile.gif Thanks guys!

From what I've done with Avidemux it is a really great piece of software. Free as in freedom and free as in beer to boot! Avidemux

I'll basically be putting together 15-20 different video sequences and shots all while a track is being played. The sequences will be everything from me spinnin, to the crowd, to the bartenders pouring drinks, to me in the DJ booth doing what I do best, and even possibly a couple of interviews at the very end of the video. The whole thing will probably be 3-4 minutes long, but it'll have video from probably about 4-6 weeks worth of shooting.

Windows Movie Maker. Dead simple and unless there's something specific you want to do that it can't there's not much reason to go elsewhere.

Or, since you have a Mac also, doesn't it come with iMovie? I've never used it but heard it's decent.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 7 but it's not free.

Ive never messed with Window Movie Maker, and yeah....my Mac does have movie software on it, but again...never used it. Sometimes 3rd party stuff is alot better than what comes standard on computers.

iMovie isn't bad at all either since you have a Mac. One of the big reasons I recommended Avidemux is because it's cross platform and with Win/Mac/*nix support you can't go wrong. I work across all three platforms on a regular basis so it's a big thing I look at when I work with a software package. If you want or need any help with anything I'd be glad to lend a hand.

^^ Duh... All Linux software is, cross platform. It's cross platform because it is generally open source. Mac just puts their name on it. Open source programs are generally better then closed source where you have an entire community working on them rather then just a single person or a company of 5-10 people. Mac ripped off the Linux kernel version and is using it for their OS so it's alot easier to port programs from Linux (where the actual development comes from) to Mac. Because of the organization and structure of open source programming, the community of Linux does the work and then it gets ported to other operating systems where it sometimes becomes closed source (mac).

It's not impossible to port from Windows to Linux though. Last night, I ported a iPod music descrambler my little brother made from Windows to Linux. It works well to pull music from an iPod.

Most of your windows software searches will return results where you have to pay because they do the things required to get more Google hits to their pages. Most of your Mac software searches will lead you to compiled programs which were once open source and people want you to pay for them. Most of your Linux searches will lead you right to the free stuff.

For example, VirtualBox. I have a virtual machine running MacOSX, I have a virtual Machine running Windows XP and another one running Windows 7. I paid for the Licensing for XP and 7, but I could not buy MacOSX. Anyways... if you search for VirtualBox for Windows, it will lead you to the paid version. If you search for Virtualbox for Linux, it will lead you to the place you can download it for free, then you select the windows version.

Bottom line... If you're looking for a good free video editor, or any software, Google "Linux *software that you're looking for*" then find the Windows port, or compile it yourself.

Not exactly. The state of the code (open or closed source) has no bearing whatsoever on it's platform compatibility. Platform doesn't just refer to operating system but also to architecture. However, none of this has any bearing on the original topic so... /end hijack
