The digital highs and lows are the best with this cable. http://www.amazon.com/Monster-M1000-...monster+1000hd
You want the best quality 1s and 0s right? Its no longer about the picture quality, but the style in which you deliver the signal. Sure, you could buy the $8 shoes, but the other kids on the playground will laugh at you. :-)
In all honesty, theyre the same.

8 bucks?!? I get mine off amazon for less then 6 bucks shipped.
Amazon HDMI
To answer your question, yes, you need to know what kind of signal you are trying to push, as a new gen cable may be required (ie, 3D, 4K, etc..)
I have el cheapo hdmi cables and the picture is just fine.

well, depends on the setup
would i rock an entire full macintosh and klipsch home theater system and connect an elite 60" tv with a $8 HDMI cable?
nope
40" samsung with factory in tv speakers? sure why not
the biggest difference ive noticed with GOOD HDMI cables is sound quality
