New iPhone gets announced today
They are estimating it to be around $1200. All the sheep and hipsters will still line up though for it.

The reason why people don't mind paying for it is because it can be put on a payment plan. They'll pay $30/mo. extra on their phone plan without hesitation in order to get that fancy new phone.
I preordered my S8 for $800 when it came out. I hesitated over the decision quite a bit, but felt that it was worth it since I had an old S5, and the phone came with the Gear VR kit ($250). I hope the Iphone comes with some kind of bonus package as well.
I'm paying more close attention to their stock. It's gone up quite a bit over the last few months, but I foresee a drop after launch. I just don't think it will have anything special that will cause the stock to soar.

With what modern flagship phones are capable of a ~$1000 price point is reasonable. They're fairly powerful miniature computers with a high resolution touchscreen. The only reason they're as inexpensive as they are is because so many are produced.
It's shocking to me that you can pick up a passable $40 smartphone though.
