Default Motorola Droid Phone on Verizon

What does everyone think? Depending on price I think I've found my new phone.

I'm not a fan of the hardware of the previous Android devices (they feel cheap). I haven't held all of them of course, and not sure exactly which I've held, but this looks similar. I think my Pre has more flow and better design, although I haven't used the Droid yet.

I also think the Google bar at the top is a waste of space. The Pre has something similar, but it isn't visible - it just automatically pops up when you start typing, giving Google, Google Maps, and Wikipedia as options.

For some reason, it just looks like a 1990s computer screen layout. Maybe it's the pictures.

Yeah, that layout looks a bit like a Windows 95 Control Panel, but the interface is customizable and this might even be a menu, I'm not sure. From reviews the hardware is said to be very solid with lots of actual metal and rubberized surfaces. It pretty much has all the features I'm looking for, on the best network (although Verizon is overpriced). It'll just come down to if I can afford it. I'm not spending $700 on a phone.

BTW it has the same processor as the Pre, and runs on Android 2.0.

I was reading about it this morning. Customizable is a necessity, and something the iPhone lacks. Hopefully their app catalog continues to grow and they make it more available (i.e., no iron fist to say "No"). I want google to succeed with the andoird OS - anything to compete with Apple is good.

Even on Verizon's site it says 10,000+ apps and open development. My big worry is the phone being locked down the way Verizon tends to and making all the apps expensive.

I have only one concern... tethering. No tethering = no buy.

I have the MyTouch which is a Google Android phone. Its called the iPhone killer because of the features, apps, and browser. I absolutely love it, never had any issues what so ever, and Android is gonna get bigger and better over the next few months.

If you can get it at a good price...DO IT! smile.gif Although, I dont know what kind of restrictions Verizon will put on it. I have TMobile, and theres next to no restrictions on my phone. Theres a HUGE Android community too thats very helpful and you can get answers on alot of stuff as far as modding out the phones and doing custom stuff to them.

Yes there is... No tethering without cracking the phone and violating your "terms of service". Only reason why I didn't get one. Got the T-Mobile Samsung Comeback and a Verizon USB for the laptop instead.

^ btw.... I enjoy tethering via WiFi (ad-hoc) or USB smile.gif
Palm just announced that whatever isn't "approved" for their app catalog will be provided through an unofficial Palm catalog. Reasons that they may NOT be approved is due to coding involving undocumented APIs that could force it to break in later versions.

Cliff Notes: They're encouraging 3rd party apps, regardless if they're through the catalog or other sources.

But... who cares if it violates the Terms of Service?
