Default Microsoft predicts bleak future for Windows XP users after patches run out

It's a good thing I bought Windows 8 over a month-and-a-half ago to replace the aging, broken Windows XP.

Win8 sucks unless you have a tablet. I tried using it on a laptop at the store. What a PITA. The computer doesn't go to the desktop on start up, it goes to an "apps" page. I don't want apps. I turned them off in Win7.

Supposedly the free upgrade that Windows is coming out with (8.1) will solve that problem and allow you to have the traditional look and feel.

...and it explodes next year after they stop releasing patches and somebody releases t3h nasty bugs into the wild. There is potential for a VERY nasty day-after-support-ends set of problems for anyone still using XP. It won't boot and shut down faster once it's totally full of viruses and you can't do anything but unplug it from the wall and stare at it. If you've never had to deal with an infected computer before, congratulations; that will be ending around the middle of next year.

For those stuck with Windows 8, and those using 7 and wish they still had XP, go install Classic Shell.

Well if you're going to bring up *nix, how about a mature Unix OS with a user-friendly interface, well-supported, runs-on-Intel and been around a LONG time, lots of applications, etc...

Apple!
