Keeping external HD powered on and LAN on when computer is sleeping?

Is it possible? It's not a portable drive, it requires a separate power source. I have my WDTV streaming from my external HD. Wired network

There are network-attached storage appliances that are standalone deals (NAS) and an external router/switch doesn't necessarily need a computer to tell it where to send packets.



Rule of thumb for technology: if you can think of it, somebody is already selling it.
