Default To Infinity and Beyond!

The Voyager probe is set to enter interstellar space travel.



It's only taken 3 decades, but it is happening. Equipped with history of our life on earth, it's mission is to see what else is out there, and hopefully make contact.



3 decades later, we have not learned how to break the law of physics yet, and travel at the speed of light, unfortunately.



Interstellar and Intergalactic space travel are still things of Sci-Fi fantasy, at least in our world, and could possibly be just impossible based on the laws of physics that we strongly believe in.



SO..



That leaves us with few options if we want to advance further into space exploration.



- Learn how to bend, manipulate space, to teleport from one point to another.

- Discover human safe ways for possible travel at light speed

- Find a way to use our galaxy's black hole as a tool for travel.



The last one concerning the black hole I would like to put a little more thought into. If a person traveling at regular speed, or no speed at all, just stayed there frontline at the event horizon, they would slowly be pulled into the hole, where because of the tidal forces they would get extended like

Strech Armstrong and die a rather spectacular death. On the other hand, if we were to fly straight on, close to the speed of light, we would enter into the black hole and would exit out it's release vent, and end up god knows where. The black hole sucks up everything in it's path, but where does it all lead to? It can't just all be sucked in and kept in a space storage, based on current physicality laws, it's just not possible. Nobody will ever know where the exit of a black hole leads to, another galaxy, another universe, another dimension, it's all very strange, and pretty much every theory that comes to life in regards to "the black hole" can and will only be based off conjecture, unless it's something we put more effort into studying.



A worm hole is another interesting scenario, but this would be used more for time travel rather than space travel, but if we were to see into the future now, maybe we can bring back and use technology from the future to assist us in our current space travel efforts.. but then fermi paradox rears its ugly head in..oh brother..



So, realistically what do you think are our best options for going further than we have ever gone before? I'm talking manned space travel, to as far as maybe 20 light years away.



Solar sailing? Big ship with 20 couples, that breed onboard, and space travel and teach their offspring to carry on the mission?

A black hole isn't a hole any more than Earth is a hole. It's just a bunch of matter with enough gravity that light can't get out so we can't see it. There is no going out the other side, there is no release vent. There is no doorway to another place/time/dimension...just a fate of being crushed to the point that even your atoms are torn apart.



Best way to instigate interstellar space travel is the "seed ship" idea. Send a bunch of people in a ship capable of sustaining human life indefinitely as they travel towards a destination. First problem is choosing a destination. It would take generations to reach most star systems with current technology, ad we don't even know that there would be a reasonable place to set up shop even if we got there. Mercury would look fairly promising if we detected it from afar, but you wouldn't even be able to set up a habitable base there.



Near term we need to get comfortable living and working in space, on asteroids (that's where the big money is), on the moon, and other planetary bodies in our solar system. The tech for surviving in space would advance quickly if we were actually using it, and especially if it was profitable.
