What is it expanding into?



If the Universe itself is not infinite and is in fact, expanding in size, what is it expanding into?

 

vacuum.

 

Nobody knows. I'm interested in these kinds of questions but it doesn't really matter to a LOT of people.

 

More empty space. So more accurate to say the "matter containing portion of the universe" is expanding. The surrounding area is also part of the universe, just an empty part.



I don't fully subscribe to either theory personally though.

 

This thread reminds me of Phoebe from the fortunately-now-canceled show Friends saying sometimes she felt like she was being pushed (vs. pulled) by gravity.
