33 text messages per day is alot. Why would you waste your time texting when you can pick up the phone and call?

If I'm at home, email, call, text, shoutbox, or instant message. I can even text message from an instant messenger.
If I'm in my car, and mobile, then i'm not responding to any communications.
If I'm at work, call or email. I will never respond to a text message.

On a side note... When I see someone text messaging at work, I automatically and subconciously loose respect for them. I realize this only because text messaging is rarely used for business.

I personally hate talking on the phone unless its absolutely important. I would just prefer to text, because I can do it on my own time.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DTN @ Jul 28 2010, 01:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I use internet on my phone constantly.

You guys are doing it wrong....
1. get Ubuntu Linux.
2. Link it's messenger to every messenger service you have.
3. Use an actual keyboard for instant messaging and dont' spend 10x as long using your little phone to type a message.

A phone's keyboard is not designed to be used for typing. Text messaging is a after-thought and even in the best implementations the speed of use is drastically reduced from that of a keyboard.

Really... I'm one of the most "connected" people you will ever meet. If you have 1000 text messages per month, you probly have spent about 1000 minutes conveying the information which could have fit in a 10 minute phone call. With all of the other methods of communication out there, text-messaging is one of the most inefficient.

It is good in certain situations, but really, I cannot picture that 1-5,000 times per month.</div>
1. Get an Android phone.
2. Log into your messaging services.
3. Use the built-in "Voice to Text" feature so you eliminate a keyboard altogether.

OR

1. Get a Palm Pre. All conversations regardless of SMS, MMS, AIM, YIM, ICQ, etc. will be in a single threaded conversation, so your contacts who might move between communication tools will appear seamless in your phone.

If I use a phone call, it'll last more than my text message. Text messages allow someone to respond faster, at their convenience. If I'm in a meeting, I WON'T answer my personal phone unless it rings 3 times. If I receive a text, I'll respond immediately after the meeting while walking to my desk, but I might not have time to call you. Thus, the message is responded to much quicker.

I can also EASILY speak my text message and send it to multiple recipients. "Lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings on Friday at noon" --- not sure calling 10 people would accomplish that any faster. You also have to keep in mind that the recipients might not be available to answer your call, OR that they are able to receive your method of communication (ICQ, AIM, YIM, PM, etc.). Everyone has a phone with them, so while YOU may be "the most connected person," they may not. SMS is probably quicker to reach them.

That voice text sounds like the way to go. On a keyboard I can type as fast as I talk. If I can type by talking, that would be great.

Like I said, it has it's purposes. Text is great when you need a simple yes or no from the responder or broadcasting a lunch plan. I can't having lunch 33 times a day though.

Most kids use text messaging to hide behind because you don't have to do actual interaction. People say it's inconvient or slow to call on the phone when in reality, you take 5 minutes to have a 20 second conversation.

I have the speech to text also, it's amazingly good.

A 20 second conversation? If I ever had those I might use the phone more often. People almost never get off the phone in less than 5 minutes, even if I only had one sentence worth of something to convey.

I agree - phone calls can accomplish more than e-mails or texts, but sometimes I want a trail...
1. so I can have a reference when I forget
2. so I can have a reference when others forget and claim ignorance

I also agree that kids today (damn that makes me sound old) hide behind texts. I even know some ~30 year olds that will text entire conversations but are afraid to speak in the presence of 2 or more people. It's sad. But, on the other hand, I attribute texting to the ability for younger generations to multi-task at an exponential rate compared to the older generations.

Wishing everyone was like that. bluetooth is OK to me but it depends on the user. there are still sme people that can't walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone talk on a headset and keep their attention on the road. both Topeka and Manhattan Kansas have banned texting and talking while driving. only bluetooth is allowed but they have had a few accidents still in Topeka cause people had a headset on and just spaced out.

Don't tell Adam that, lol. i never liked cell phones until the gf got her droid, i friggin love it. he would have that damn thing overclocked in the first 15 minutes of owning one, trying to find out what else he could screw with in it's inner workings.

most people for me just call. i don't have a problem texting but i feel it to be rude sometimes depending on the subject. my biggest pet peeve is my gf's cousin. she will post daily on her FB in text chat and not seeing every word properly spelled just irks the sh*t out of me.
