"Unusually High speed" in cosmic terms means railgun velocity.

It's actually many magnitudes faster. Railgun projectiles travel at around 5,000 to 6,000 mph. This asteroid is traveling at nearly 80,000 mph. Think about the amount of energy that 1.5 mile wide asteroid has behind it. If it hit land, the crater would be over 21 miles wide and 2300 feet deep.
