Default Google Testing Same-Day Delivery

Google Inc. (GOOG) is testing an online shopping service with same-day delivery in San Francisco with partners including Target Corp. (TGT) and Walgreen Co. (WAG)

The pilot project, called Google Shopping Express, lets local residents order items from participating retailers, which also include Toys “R” Us Inc., Staples Inc. (SPLS) and American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (AEO), Google said on its website. Customers can get items from multiple stores.

Google is expanding in e-commerce to compete with Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), the world’s largest online retailer, as it seeks to step up growth and lessen its dependence on Web search, which now accounts for most of revenue. Last month, Google agreed to buy Channel Intelligence Inc. to add online marketing tools retailers use to bolster Internet sales. In November, Google acquired BufferBox Inc., a service for delivering e- commerce goods to physical kiosks.

Shops including Nob Hill Foods and Blue Bottle Coffee are also included in the service, Google said.

I know Amazon has been looking into this, as well as other companies. Distribution centers are being strategically positioned for 1-day delivery. Nashville has seen a boom in warehouses since it is centrally located and logistically strategic to be at the Gulf Coast, Kansas City, Chicago, Pittsburgh, or Detroit in 8 hours, or Washington DC, Dallas, Orlando, or Milwaukee in under 10 hours. It takes a full 13 hours to hit either Miami or New York City, or 16 hours for Denver, but you're still looking at a realistic 1-day turnaround with 3 or 4 strategically placed warehouses around the country. Anyone else curious to see online orders made at 8am from work sitting on your doorstep when you get home at 5pm?

Probably $120% of your total purchase. I'm sure it will be an option at a fee, not something forced upon you.

On Amazon, I pay $3.99 for next day air. Some items I can get delivered from a close by warehouse the same day for the same price... $3.99.

This is going to spawn another generation of neckbeards that don't even have to go outside any more. Too busy dominating LoL and downing energy drinks.
