Meh. I guess I just don't Get It. BTW the thought of saving to the cloud gives me a case of the creeping willies.

Ubuntu has been doing something similar for about 2 years now... Any computer you sign into with UbuntuOne automatically downloads the files you choose to synchronise to the UbuntuOne cloud. The data is stored as private until you go to the one.ubuntu.com site and share it as public, then send a link to someone. The difference is that data is not downloaded from Google until it's requested by a Google app.

Personally, I use my UbuntuOne account for storing information I need on my computers.... evolution settings, schematics, documents I want to share at work... Just pop it into the folder and it zips up to the cloud to be downloaded after secure authentication at work.

The chromebook works similarly, but it's not synchronised. You hit save and it sends the document to the cloud. You hit open and it pulls the document from the cloud. Authentication is handled by logging into the computer. Your Google account can be accessed from any chromebook.

The cloud can be migrated though. Your business can host a private cloud with VPN tunneling. That way it's like being on your work network, but you're somewhere else with a secured tunnel.
