Curved TVs
What do you guys think about them? I'm not talking about the 4K ones. Just regular HD curved. Do they really give a better viewing experience or is it just a marketing gimmick?

IF your panel has poor horizontal viewing angles
AND IF you always sit in front of the middle of the screen
THEN curving the panel can improve the picture.

It's a gimmick.
Think back to the good old days of CRTs: you never had a problem with viewing angles making funky phase/contrast/color craziness, just you couldn't see the FAR side of the tube when viewing from one side. This replicates that problem and makes it worse: if it's curved convex to any useful extent, you will not be able to see the NEAR side of the screen when viewing from the side.

Gimmick, proven by the prices coming down drastically. Now only a little more than flat.

All of the curved screens I've personally seen were 4K. I liked them all, and it did seem that their viewing angles were great, but I'm guessing they would also be great if flat. If nothing else it's cool that the technology works.
