I have a LG 50" plasma tv. I bought a VGA to RCA component (red, white, yellow) cable and tried to connect my laptop to the tv this weekend. Ran the VGA out the back of the laptop, to the components in the tv. When I hit Function F5 (as if I had a projector hooked up), the tv came on, but it was all black and white, and scrambled (like the old adult movie channels you tried to watch as a kid). Am I doing something wrong, or is my tv or laptop not set up to do this? My laptop is kind of old (Acer..lolz) and only has a VGA port and 3 USB's. Any suggestions on getting it to work, other than buying a new laptop with tv outs?
Was your TV changed to the right Input to display the computer? There should be an input, LINE, Aux, or something. Which TV model do you have?
I connect mine via HDMI all the time.
www.monoprice.com ftw.

www.monoprice.com ftw.
To convert a standard VGA signal output to video, you will need a scan converter:
