I'm not quite sure what is going on here, but I get free pappadums from the indian store next door to my work. I pay for them with conversations in exceedingly stilted english, but they smile frequently and give me free food. I'm not complaining.

What's going on here is the help doesn't speak-ee the engrish so good. Even Bart Simpson knew to learn the language of the country where he found himself kidnapped and used as a child slave laborer!

Tech support is usually quite bad for that as well - the idea of a phone is that you use it so speak. Why employ people to use a phone if they can't speak well?
