Thoughts on breaking spaghetti prior to cooking
Who breaks their spaghetti/linguine prior to cooking it. My girlfriend and I bicker about this all the time. She likes me to break it and cook it so it's not messy and so she doesn't have to cut it. I don't like to break it. Any reasons as to why I should or shouldn't break it? What do you do with your pasta? Probably a stupid thread but just making discussion. Thanks!
it hurts the spaghetti. don't do it. it's totally inhumane. haven't you heard the cries coming through the steam?!
I break it so it cooks evenly. I don't want 1/4 of the noodles sticking out of the water, while the other 3/4 is nearly fully cooked.
Why wouldn't you break it?

Definitely break it for ease of cooking and eating. The only one I leave whole is cappelini, because it cooks so damn fast and it's so thin, you can easily wrap whole strands around your fork without slapping yourself in the face with red sauce.
