As many of you know I like beer...... a lot. In fact I am endangering my own diet for the sake of a really rare brew!
Stone Brewing Company released a beer just a few short months ago to commemorate the 13th anniversary of their popular Arrogant Bastard ale.

Did your daddy donkey punch your momma the night you were conceived? OH HELL YEAH!!
Appearance- Pouring a regular Arrogant Bastard is a euphoric experienced, as the creamy foam recedes slowly the dark, almost opaque fluid promises to be quite bold, and that it is! Even the Oaked and Double Bastards distort all light and sound while tasting splendid. And as the Lukcy is a blend of all three one might expect a deep black, denser than the most imposing of neutron stars. But it's not!! It pours clear brown from it's bottle into my Left Hand pilsner glass with little head which receded almost immediately.
Smell- Note, this is where the Oaked takes the show. It's smells just like the oak chips used to flavor 1/3 of the blend. It's a pleasant aroma, but as the Oaked wasn't as good as the regular I begin to get worried
Taste- rich flavor, sweet malt and... wait for it... THERE'S THE HOP! And does it ever bite? After the sweetness the hoppy bite takes hold and won't let go. Hopheads will be very proud of this Stone!
Mouthfeel- medium. It has no peculiar texture like some others, but luckily the flavor doesn't recede like the the Yuengling Lord Chesterfield. Just a solid wet flavorful mouthful the entire tongue ride. You won't have to nurse this one either unless you are a light beer fan D:
Drinkability- It was exquisite! I will be getting more and maybe aging some. Debatable if its better than the original, but it's a great catch at 6.99.
Serving type- Double Deuce. And they won't be making any more so don't miss out if are a hophead as well!

Oaked is one of those words I look out for, like in wine drinking. Usually, if a wood or the word "earthy" show up in the description, i'm steering clear as it usually means you taste wood or dirt in the finish.

The Oaked Bastard was kind of "meh" when compared to the original for that very reason. BUT Stone released a one-off 1/4 keg of a special white oak to one of my local watering holes a while back and it was outstanding! The difference might have been freshness in a cask with cheesecloth vs. the mass produced bottles, but the Lukcy reminded me far more of that one. In fact the majority of the oak was in the aroma alone. The flavor was somewhere between the standard and the double, but the liquid was clear, even more so than any of the other brews. It was odd honestly, but intensity didn't suffer. I'm telling you these guys are magicians!
stone is a brew co. that has yet to let me down-... everyone of their beers that i've had (so far) has been an absolute hit-... i might try this one tonite.
plus it gives me an excuse to buy more terrapin wake and bake before that goes out of season aswell.
