i'm going to use sam adams cherry wheat as an example-... i like this beer, but i hate wheat beers. what makes this one different is that the cherry flavor completly overpowers the wheat-... it is a very flavor forward beer it doesn't have balance between the grains, hops, yeast, and the cherries. the cherry hits you first, then the wheat malt, maybe a bit of yeast, and next to no alpha acid from the hops.

in an ipa the hops are going to be the flavor up front w/ some of the grain's undertones, and the yeast takes a backseat.

in belgain ales the yeast is the most present, then you get the grains, and the hops take a backseat.

i could go on and on-... what i'm saying is sam adams (to me) usually have flavor forward beers.

It was last year or the year before that I saw it in early September.

If you say so, but being out now can only mean one thing....come October, you'll only have winter brews on the shelf. Beer is getting worse than cars with the early releases here!

I can't disagree. It's tasty and all, but Oktoberfest in August is like... well, Halloween in the damn dead of summer. Think of the children.

Besides, much better brews that can be enjoyed all year.

That said, very much looking forward to visiting Helen, GA this year for Oktoberfest. Many good drunken times to follow.
